Except for the slightly increased file size due to exporting, I have no way to track the difference between the two files. The one with the long file name is the original that I cannot embed in Inkscape, the image with the short name is the same image but exported through GIMP, which does work. Both approaches work, howevr, the latter is more efficient but still a pain. The extension should be put into the folder that is listed at Edit > Preferences > System > User extensions.

I thought the process would be similar for Mac users. I just downloaded latest stable from Inkscape's website via ppa, v.0.92.5 (0.92.5+69), but this does not work either. Inkscape v.0.92.3 seems to work fine, though. When I go to the launch view (view on mac where you can see all your open windows in one view) I can clearly see there IS an export window but it will not show up on my normal screen no matter what. This happens with Inkscape v.0.92.5 (from ubuntu package). The problem comes when I go into Inkscape and go to File>Export and then no window shows up. This may have been caused by an unknown filename extension. If on Linux or OSX, launching Inkscape will launch X11 or XQuartz in the. Whenever I try to export each card I end up with a document file and the image is blurry. Image formats like PNG, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, and others are just that plain old. I need to separate each card a save them individually. Inkscape 0.92.4 (2.10) was installed through PPA.Launchpad. The Windows instructions tell you to simply copy the color palette you want from the GIMP palette folder - in program files - to the Inkscape color palette folder in program files as well.
